Cape Race Road Trip

November 21st, 2008 · 2 Comments

I am a little late with this post as the road trip to Cape Race was back in early September!! It was supposed to be a trip to get some pictures of the lighthouse, but the thick fog had a say in that…

So with only a dozen photos taken that day, I did not have much to choose from to post. But I did manage to take 1 picture I liked. This fella greeted us at the lighthouse, and even peed on Randy’s car!!

MIA

September 18th, 2008 · 1 Comment

That’s right, I have been missing in action here at Fotogeeks. I did manage to go on the foggy excursion to Cape Race and even took a dozen pictures, some of which I may share here later. First I have to get them off my camera!! I have been busy, along with one of the other geeks (Geek #1 - who in my geek orderology is Randy), putting in all extra time on home renovations. Windows and siding is the job and it is going a little slow, as evenings, with the 1000w halogen lights lighting our way, and weekends is not a lot of time for 2 and sometimes 3 guys working on a 2 story house!! Here is a picture of some of the carnage going on -

As you may be able to see, we are now at the side and working our way the the front of the house. Should be lots of fun…. oh yea, we skipped the back porch and will be ending the project on that!

I will post a few pictures from Cape Race after all the above mess is done!!

Lighthouses

So, where do you go with the camera when you haven’t been out for a while? Cape Spear of course. I had Angus with me and the digital rebel with a bad battery. It did not make for a good combo as every time I turned the camera on Angus got stopped to pose for pictures and the camera battery died a little more. At the end of it all Angus posed for about 60 pictures and I got to take 12 before the battery went dead. So here are 2 of them: crw_1693_580px.jpg crw_1694_580px.jpg

Puppy Fever

May 4th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I didn’t really have puppy fever until I got to spend some camera time with Aqua’s Luna. She is an awesome puppy, 11 weeks old, the same age as Angus was when I first picked him up. Sadly I cannot possibly handle another puppy right now so I will have to regulate myself to just stalking Newf puppies with my camera!!

So here is Luna.

Does your Newfoundland dog drool?

April 1st, 2008 · 5 Comments

Nope, not mine. He is tight lipped, his flews are not big enough to hold copious amounts of drool, at least he doesn’t think so.

Here he is posing for the camera, completely oblivious to the thick, slimy “flooger” strung between his eyes.

Angus

That’s right, nothing to see here, no floogers to be found anywhere. After all Angus doesn’t drool.

Ok, he drools a little… when he is sleeping!! Most other times he can be found with perfectly symmetrical floogers hanging in wait for anyone to get within range so he can deposit them on your clothes!

Outside in the snow he can fling those suckers the length of the yard when he shakes his head. I’ve been hit by many flying slingers, but the worse are the half frozen ones, we’ll just call those floogcicles. I have no pictures of them as I fear for the camera lens getting in the way of the line of fire and shattering in my hands.

So in closing, if you see a Newfoundland Dog breeder advertising the “non-drooling” variety run very quickly the other way! Drool happens….. and finds its way into and onto everything, especially clean clothes!!

The next question I will address is “Do Newfoundland dogs shed?”. I will try to explain that natural phenomenon another time. :)

Not much to say here, looked great standing there, not so much in the photo.

While everyone was busy getting in position for that one great shot…. or 3 great shots later combined and tonemapped to show an amazing amount of dynamic range… I was busy running in the opposite direction so that I could get a few shots of the others! Here are a few I captured. They look dangerously close to the edge.

Shaft 1916

One of the inclined shafts on Bell Island, dating from 1916. This entrance is located next to the airstrip, where the Stig was last spotted racing against the wind.
