I am tired of looking at my campfire, Randy, Mike, Andreau are you out there? I have not been out shooting for a while but I dug this one up from June. I have no idea how it will look as I have been playing with some Photoshop actions that Randy emailed me ages ago. So here it goes!

I have finally dug out from camp gear and decided to post these before I forget. I took these pictures when I went camping with my Girl Guides at Butterpot.

Now that’s a campfire!

Despite the icebergs that are still looming off the coast we have managed to pull off a couple of good days. Imagine no snow fell on May 24th. Well here is probably my last shot of an iceberg and my first of many sunny days (cross your fingers) as we dive into Spring.

Saturday after a day of tutoring the sun decided to shine. I was heading home and keeping an eye on Signal Hill as it went in and out of the fog. I had heard that we had an enormous amount of iceberg activity and wanted some pics but the harbour did not look promising. I checked out www.icebergfinder.com and saw bergs were all over the coast. So with the saddest of eyes I convinced my other half to go for a drive. We headed down the Southern Shore with the fog closing in on us. With the determination of a race car driver he headed into Witless Bay where I got some nice shots. I was talking to a local and he said to go to Tors Cove which we did (pics to come later) We saw 7 in Witless Bay and 15 in Tors Cove.

Depending on the angle this berg looked like a Rhino.

This all started when I tried downloading pics of Canadian money for a math lesson with my students. After a while of not being able to get clear and true pics I decidied to do it myself. I tried but my lense just couldn’t get detailed enough for my liking. Then I went back to surfing the web again and saw Kim’s butterflies. They are awesome so I asked about my money situation. She said she uses a macro1:2.8 and offered to loan it to me. So I have been playing with it all weekend. Yes, I got my money shots LOL! But also some other interesting perspectives. The first one is of my dog Ripley.

I thought I could use the rest as a game of guess what with my students? For more check out my gallery.

As you all probably know my fellow geeks and I had a little competition over the weekend. Well, I was less than inspired when we went downtown with the crappy weather, few shops open and just plain dreariness of it all. Out of the 170 pictures I took I found only 2, yes I said it only 2 that were worth keeping on my hard drive. The others found their way to the “recycling bin”. I shall not tell you the picture I chose for the competition (that would be cheating) but I will share the other choice with you.

As of 2:17am this morning I now have a new cousin. After cooing at him and sniffing his wonderful new baby smell (better than a new car smell!) I took some shots. This one really interested me because I thought how new life resembles old life. Kim probably has a picture somewhere of some old hands that would be a great juxtaposition to this one.

My friend’s boys were staying at my house for a couple of days and we decided to take advantage of the decent weather today and go outside to build a snow fort and snowmen. After a week of snowstorms and freezing rain the boys had slight cabin fever, to say the least! Here we have Justin dedicated to the job of making the perfect snowman head and Dylan who is an imp eating the carrot he stole from Justin’s first snowman. I didn’t get any pictures of the fight that broke out once Justin discovered the nose had gone missing and Dylan’s orange smile. I was too busy playing referee. Once peace was restored and we had completed our tasks we went inside for chocolate milk and animal crackers. The great thing about having friends with kids is that you can love’m and spoil’m and then give them back.

Just ignore the cold outside and sit by a sunny window. Now let the rays of the sun warm you and pretend that we get Spring in a couple of weeks just like the calendar says. This is what I was doing this afternoon while looking at my Christmas Cactus, which normally blooms once a year but likes his new place by the window and has decided to lift my spirits and bloom again. So if you get down about the cold and snow look at these pictures and think spring, maybe if we all do it together we might just get it.

I am really surprised that we don’t see more shacks actually down in the water. It seems like they are all just one wind storm away from being match sticks. This was taken in Petty Harbour a couple of weeks ago with Kim and a very sleepy fotogeek.
