— Warning… Geeky Camara Tech post —
Well I finially made my remote shutter for my Canon XT. Sure, I could have ordered one from China for 99 cents.. but where is the fun in that??
This is super easy to make and includes a shutter button, AF button and Shutter Switch for blub mode. This makes all night photos pretty much shake free (depending on your tripod of course)
Materials -
Stereo Switch (2.5)
Wire
Soldering Iron
Solder
2 Buttons
1 one way switch
Old can or some kind of container
Electrical Tape
The camaras funtions actually work by shorting the ground off the left and right channels. So you can play around with shorting the connections to see which channel does what to the camara. You will soon find out that shorting one triggers the AF and the other triggers the shutter button.
Now just follow this advanced schematics I did to solder your connections together!!

.

So thats it. Just make sure only the right connections are touching and you should be in business. The following picture is the one I made, and is actually taking that picture!

Give it a shot.

I know Randy concealed that face to protect his identity. But I can stand it no more… It’s me. I have a problem. Once I snap that Peleng on, even for a second, I can’t stop hitting the shutter. People, this sickness is very serious and not to be delt with lightly. Once I thought my friend was going to take it off my camara… so I quickly took out my 100-300 telephoto lens and threw it at his face.
I know actions like this can’t be condoned. I am sorry. But with your support, either by comments or small donations to fotogeeks, maybe we can make a difference in this sick world of Peleng F3.5/8mm Fisheye users.
Thank You,
-Mike
Here was the result of my last Peleng freak out.

This is a warning to anyone considering the purchase of a new lens. Not a warning regarding the purchase of any lens in general, but a very specific lens in particular.
It’s call a Peleng F3.5 8mm Fisheye. Generally speaking, this lens is looked upon favorably, especially when taking into account it’s price. But, as I said, this warning is not about the lens. It’s a waring about what is likely to happen if you purchase one.
If you’re the type of photographer that often shoots with other photographers, purchase of this lens could very likely get you into trouble, or at the very least, into a lot of pictures.
Problematic behavior developed after purchase of the Peleng F3.5 8mm Fisheye exhibits itself as follows:
- “Peleng Photographer” sees something to photograph. In our example image, it is a tractor.
- Peleng Photogrpaher approaches tractor, stopping at a common distance in relation to the other photographers that may be shooting the tractor.
- Peleng Photographer looks at tractor in viewfinder.
- Peleng Photographer approaches tractor further, while looking through the viewfinder.
- Peleng Photographer continues to approach tractor.
- Read item 5, three more times.
If the Peleng Photographer is fortunate enough to have the support of family and friends, there often is hope.
It is a unfortunate affliction of sorts to be the owner of this particular piece of equipment, and those around the Peleng Photographer must offer sympathy. There is no treatment for this affliction, and under no circumstances should anyone attempt to intervene with the Peleng Photographer’s use of this equipment.
The accompanying image is an actual image of an actual photographer using an actual Peleng F3.5 8mm Fisheye.
The face of the photographer is concealed to protect his identity.

I once read on a photo fourm that its kinda hard to find a used peleng 8mm, cause once you buy one you never sell it. Well…. I just found out that is very true!
I just got mine(new) in the mail a night ago, and even though I haven’t used it on a real outing yet, I can safely say its the most fun lens i have ever used! It’s totally manual, but you don’t even care when this thing is attached! Plus the f/stop is super easy to use due to a ring on the lens that shows you how much light it’s letting in!
Hopefully i will post some more in the near future. When ever the rain stops anyway.

A few shots from the Sunday Morning Photo Excursion.
We pretty much stuck to the plan - started at Ferryland and continued to Cape Race. Turns out that the road to Cape Race was snow covered and impassable with our little hatchback. This was something that was figured out “the hard way” - it looked fine going in, but after getting stuck a few times at around 7km, we had to turn back and jettison everything from the car to get back out. Kim got a few shots - she’ll apparently be posting some stuff from that part of the adventure to her blog in the next few days.

After we failed to reach Cape Race, and while it was still early in the day, we decided to continue around the loop and headed up Salmonier Line to the Trans Canada. Most of the shots I got were from the first half of the trip though, before we scraped the hell out of the bottom of the car.
Oh well…
Btw, CBC News has a review of DSLRs in the $1000.00 range from Canon and Olympus, just in case you haven’t yet completed your Christmas shopping.
